ANAMNESIS

Anamnesis is a collaborative audiovisual project by Isadora Darke and Rachel Goodyear, with soundscape by Aja Ireland. The work draws on Jungian theories of the collective unconscious and psychogeography to create immersive installation environments.

The installation is composed of suspended mesh screens that structure a permeable visual field. Moving image is projected across and through these surfaces, spilling beyond their edges to produce layered zones of light, interference and distortion.

Fragmented landscapes emerge in states of transformation—geological forms caught between formation and dissolution. Time is destabilised as images repeat, fracture and reconfigure, collapsing linear narrative into cyclical processes of emergence and decay. Within this shifting environment, humanoid figures appear intermittently, hovering between recognition and abstraction, functioning as traces of perception and memory rather than fixed identities.

Anamnesis treats memory as spatial rather than narrative: a layered and unstable architecture produced through projection, proximity and movement.

Originally commissioned as an installation by Fat Out Festival, the work was later reconfigured as a live audiovisual performance for Supernormal Festival. In this expanded form, Anamnesis became a durational environment of live image, sound and noise-based collaboration with Conny Prantera (The Seer), Naycha Somko and Emma Thompson. The performance extended the installation’s visual logic into real-time composition, where fragmentation, collision and drift are enacted live.
